The Coordinated Maritime Presences concept and the EU’s naval ambitions in the Indo-Pacific

Since the launch of first-ever EU naval operation in 2008, ongoing Operation Atalanta off Horn Africa, forces have operated primarily Europe’s vicinity or regions which great-power tensions been low. Yet, Union has also begun to seek a role for itself more sensitive regions, namely Indo-Pacific, via new Coordinated Maritime Presences concept. This article analyses EU’s plans play visible and argues that extension this concept region would raise level ambition as actor.
